Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises

Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE)

The Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) aims to systematically assess the operational and economic performance of unincorporated non-agricultural establishments. Its scope includes the manufacturing, trade, and service sectors (excluding construction), specifically focusing on units outside the organized sector to provide a comprehensive data set for national accounts and policy formulation.
The primary unit of inquiry for the ASUSE is the ‘Establishment.’ The survey focuses on key economic indicators, including the total number of establishments, workforce size, Gross Value Added (GVA) per employee/establishment, and wages paid to hired workers. Furthermore, it captures essential operational characteristics such as ownership type, location, nature of activities, registration status, and the adoption of information technology. The survey's scope is comprehensive, covering both rural and urban areas across India. The ASUSE 2026 survey is scheduled to commence in January 2026, spanning four quarters through December 2026. In accordance with the MoSPI sampling design, both central and state sample First Stage Units (FSUs) have been selected on a quarterly basis. To ensure consistency, state samples were drawn using the same methodology applied to the central samples.
