The program on World Population Day was organized at the Training Hall of the Directorate on 11.07.2025 at 2.30 pm. The meeting was chaired by Hon. Director Mr. G.S. Rajath and Additional Director Prices Mrs. Shylamma K. welcomed everyone. Assistant Professor, University of Kerala, Karyavattom Campus, Mr. Arunkumar V. S. delivered the keynote address on this year's theme, "Empowering young people to create the families they want in a fair and hopeful world". Mr. Premarajan E. V., Deputy Director Vital Statistics made a presentation on the topic "Population and Statistics: A vital connection". Mrs. C.P. Resmi, Additional Director State Income spoke and extended her greetings. Mrs. Yamuna A. R., Joint Director Survey Design Department thanked the participants in the meeting.
28 JUNE 2025: National Statistics Day celebrations
With seamless organization and spirited involvement, the Directorate of Economics and Statistics celebrated the 19th Statistics Day with ease and enthusiasm. The four-day celebration from the 25th to 28th that held in the training hall of the Directorate of Economics and Statistics to honour the 19th birth anniversary of Dr. P.C. Mahalanobis witnessed vibrant participation and showcased a sense of grandeur befitting the significance of the occasion.
The 19th National Statistics Day was observed on June 28, 2025, in lieu of June 29, Sunday, being a holiday, at 10:30 AM in the Directorate’s training hall. The event was chaired by Sri. G. S. Rajath, Director. Prof. Jiju.P.Alex, Member of the State Planning Board, inaugurated the function and delivered the keynote address on “Regional Development and Statistical Data.” He also unveiled four publications - Report on Analysis of Miscellaneous Prices 2021, Report on Analysis of Miscellaneous Prices 2022, Report on Analysis of Farm Price 2021, Report on Analysis of Farm Price 2022 - prepared by the Prizes Division during the session. Prof. Jiju P. Alex felicitated the winners of the "Know & Grow-2025" quiz competition organized for the staff. Retired Professor G. Lasitha from Kerala University presented an insightful talk on Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis’s contributions to the country’s statistical system. The Director graciously presented mementos to the distinguished guests, extending sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks on behalf of the Directorate. The theme for the 19th National Statistics Day, “75 Years of the National Sample Survey,” was presented by Sri. Abhilash.K., Deputy Director (Evaluation) and Sri P. V. Abdul Rajib, Joint Director (PIEMD), delivered a presentation on the Sustainable Development Goals. Smt.Reshmi.C.P,Additional Director(State Income), Smt. Yamuna A. R., Joint Director (S&D), Sri. Gopakumar S., Joint Director (EARES), Senior Administrative Officer Sri. Sam Joseph were also present.
Quiz Programmes conducted
As part of the Statistics Day celebrations on 25th June 2025, a quiz competition titled "Know & Grow - 2025" was conducted for the staff of the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, as well as those from the line departments in Thiruvananthapuram district. The quiz aimed to deepen understanding of the department’s core functions and initiatives. The quiz programme was skillfully conducted by Sri. Abdul Gafoor, Assistant Director (IIP), and Sri. Ajeesh Joseph, Assistant Director (EARAS), with the expert guidance of Sri. Abhinesh S.S., Deputy Director (AGC), and Sri. Premarajan E.V., Deputy Director (Vital Statistics).Smt.Priya.K.Mohan,Statistical Assistant Gr.2 and Smt.Lekshmi.P.S, Statistical Assistant Gr.1 of The Directorate of Public Instruction bagged the First Prize. Sri.Vipin Venugopal, Statistical Assistant Gr.2 and Smt.Vineetha.T, Statistical Assistant Gr.2 of The Directorate of Economics and Statistics won the Second Prize whereas Amritha.E.S,Research Officer and Sindhu.S, Statistical Assistant Gr.2 of The Directorate of Economics and Statistics won the Third Prize.
As part of the 19th Statistics Day celebrations, the Directorate of Economics and Statistics organized a quiz competition titled "Quiz Tics 2025" for postgraduate students studying Statistics as an elective subject under accredited universities in Kerala. A total of 26 teams from various colleges across the state registered for the event, of which 24 qualifying teams participated in an online screening round held on June 23rd, 2025. Seven teams were selected for the final round. The final round took place on June 27, 2025, at the Directorate’s training hall, with Sri. Sajin Gopi, Assistant Director (State Income), expertly handled the quiz proceedings. The team comprising Abel Saju and Thomas J. Vazhackal from Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha, clinched first place, winning a cash prize of Rs. 3,000 along with certificates. The runner-up position was secured by Nivedya Premanand and Anusree Sudhakaran from Kannur University Campus, who received Rs. 2,000 and certificates. The third place went to the Nirmala College team of Lakshmi M. Shaji and Geethika Baburaj, who were awarded Rs. 1,000 and certificates.

The training program on the Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) – Original Version, in connection with the NSS 80th Round Survey on Social Consumption: Health, was conducted on 17th June 2025 at the Training Hall of the Department of Economics and Statistics. The program was inaugurated by Sri. G. S. Rajath, the Director of the Department. Sri. Vibeesh E. M., Deputy Director General (DDG), NSO Regional Office, Thiruvananthapuram, Smt. C. P. Reshmi, Additional Director (State Income) were present. The sessions were handled by Sri. Preeth.V. S., Nosologist and Smt. Remya K., Assistant Director, NSS Division. Staff members of the NSS Division from various districts as well as from the Directorate actively participated in the training program.

The Directorate of Economics & Statistics observed World Environment Day 2025 on June 5th with due solemnity. The event was chaired by Sri. G.S. Rajath, Director of the Department of Economics and Statistics. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. T.S. Preetha, Professor, Department of Botany, University College, who delivered the keynote address anchoring her remarks on this year’s global theme—“Beat Plastic Pollution”. Dr. Preetha offered deep insights into the environmental and societal impacts of plastic waste. She emphasized the urgent need for collective action and sustainable practices to combat this growing threat. Smt. C.P. Reshmi, Additional Director (State Income), Smt. Shylamma K., Joint Director, Agricultural Census were attended the ceremony.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala, Sri. Pinarayi Vijayan, formally released the report of Situation Assessment Survey of Agricultural Households in Kerala 2024-25, a comprehensive survey conducted to evaluate the progress of the State Government’s declared goal of increasing farmers’ income by 50% within five years on 30th May 2025. The Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture Development and Farmers’ Welfare, Sri. P. Prasad, formally received the report from the Chief Minister during an official ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s chamber. Sri. Sreekumar B., Director of the Department of Economics and Statistics, along with Additional Directors Shri Vinodan T.P. and Smt. Rashmi C.P. were present. The survey was conducted across the state by the Department of Economics and Statistics, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture Development and Farmers’ Welfare. It was designed in alignment with the framework, definitions, and methodology adopted in the “Situation Assessment Survey (SAS) of Agricultural Households,” conducted at the national level during the 77th round (2018–19) of the National Sample Survey by the National Statistical Office (NSO). A comprehensive fact sheet was also released that highlights the key findings of the 2024–25 survey. It presents a comparative analysis with 2018–19 income levels, state-specific income estimates for the base year 2021 generated using advanced statistical techniques and forward-looking projections for the target year 2026.
30 May 2025: Inauguration of Front Office
In a significant stride toward advancing Data dissemination and modernizing administrative infrastructure, the newly established Front Office and Digital Library at the Directorate of Economics and Statistics was formally inaugurated by Dr. T.M. Thomas Isaac, former Finance Minister, Government of Kerala on 30th May 2025. Sri. Sreekumar B., Director of the Department of Economics and Statistics presided over the function. As part of the event, 14 departmental publications were officially released. Sri. Sam Joseph, Senior Administrative Officer; Sri. Vinodan T.P., Additional Director General; Sri. G.S. Rajath, Additional Director (Prices); and Smt. Reshmi C.P., Additional Director (State Income) were present.
30 May 2025: Inauguration of Online Library
Dr. T.M. Thomas Isaac, former Finance Minister, Government of Kerala formally inaugurated the Koha online library of the Department of Economics & Statistics on 30th May 2025 at a function held at directorate Training Hall in Vikas Bhavan. Sri. Sreekumar B, Director DES presided over the function, senior officers and all staff in the directorate present. The digital library contains about 13,000 books, which offers different kinds of search of reports and publications which are physically available the directorate library. The reports include those from the Statistical Authorities of other States, Research and Development Organisations, Census Reports, RBI Bulletins, Research Journals, academic books etc. All the books are reports in the library are catalogued using Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) with the technical support of Kerala Library Association (KLA).

Department of Economics and Statistics and Kerala State Planning Board (KSPB) jointly organized a one day Brainstorming Workshop on Local Level Statistics at State Planning Board Thiruvananthapuram on 22 March 2025. Prof. V. K. Ramachandran, Vice Chairperson, KSPB inaugurated the workshop. Prof. Dr. Jiju P. Alex, Member KSPB chaired the function, Director of DES Sri. Sreekumar B., delivered welcome speech and Kerala State Statistical Commission Chairman Sri. P. C. Mohanan DDG ISS Rtd. delivered Key Note Address. During the event, Sri. Sreekumar B., Director of DES made a presentation on Online Data Repository and Sri. D. S. Shibukumar made a presentation on Decentralisation Round Survey. Senior officers from State Planning Board, LSGD and DES attended the programme.

Madhu Bhaskaran, an international motivational trainer, led the class. All staff in the directorate attend the class. The programme was orgnaised in hybrid mode and all stff in the field offices and line departments attended the session in online.

The Kerala State Statistical Commission organized a one-day workshop on March 12, 2025, at the Kannur District Police Cooperative Society Hall. The workshop aimed to discuss various activities conducted by the Department of Economics and Statistics in the district and regional statistics. Deputy Director Sri. Premarajan E V welcomed the guests, while Director Sri. Sreekumar B oversaw the opening ceremony. Kerala State Statistical Commission Chairman Shri. P.C. Mohanan ISS (Rtd.) inaugurated the program. During the ceremony, the Chairman released the Annual Industrial Survey Report for 2020-21. Additional Director Shri. T.P. Vinodan, Kannur District Planning Officer Shri. SASA sponsored a one-day SDG training workshop for the Department of Economics and Statistics employees on March 10, 2025. The programme was held at the directorate conference hall, and was attended by 50 employees from various cadres, ranging from Statistical Assistant Grade II to Deputy Director. Director of DES and SASA Sri. Sreekumar B handled classes on SDG. SASA Training Manager Sri. D S Shibukumar and SASA Research Officer Sri. Suresh S also present during the closing ceremony. Certificates were distributed to all participants.

The "Kannur Information Repository 2024" report, which offers precise and timely statistical data for planning operations in the 44 Gram panchayats of Kannur district, has been released. The District Planning Committee spearheaded this endeavour, working with Local Self Government Department and the Department of Economics and Statistics. Minister for Local Self Governments of Kerala Sri. M. B. Rajesh released the report, which was presided over by Public Works Standing Committee Chairperson Adv. T. Sarala. Director Sri. Sreekumar B., Research Officer Sri. Sudheesh Kumar C M., and District Panchayat Secretary Smt. Taini Susan John were among the other distinguished guests. The purpose of this initiative is to offer trustworthy data for Kannur district planning and development operations. The reports' publication marked a significant step forward in the district's efforts to strengthen planning and decision-making procedures. Director of Economic Statistics Department Mr. Sreekumar B presided over the function. Kerala State Agricultural Prices Board Chairman Dr. Rajasekaran P. delivered the keynote speech. During the ceremony, the farmer who is the informant of the agricultural cost survey Mr. Chandran S. Manikal was honoured and a pamphlet on the survey was relased by presenting a copy to him by the Hon'ble Minister for AGriculture. Along with this, release of report on Cost of Cultivation Survey 2022-23, Soil Conservation Assessment Study Survey Report 2022-23, Revised Instruction Book of Cost of Cultivation Survey was also done by Hon'ble Minister. Release of Paddy Harvest Experiment Tutorial Video was also done by the Minister. During the function a Research Officer Shri. Abhilash K. V. was appreciated by presenting a memento to him. Five day national training programme on Communication Skill Development for central government officers in the cadre of Senior Statistical Officer (SSO) in Subordinate Statistical Service (SSS) under the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) was held at SASA, Kaimanam, Thiruvananthapuram from 20 to 24 January 2025. 25 officer in the cadre of SSO posted in various ministries in New Delhi and Field Operations Divisions (FOD) of National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) in Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Sikkim, UP and AP were the participants of the programme. During the inaugural session held on 20-01-2025, Dr. K N Harilal, Chairman of 7th State Finance Commission (SFC) and Chairman of Advisory Committee of SASA, inaugurated the training programme by lighting the lamp. Kerala State Statistical Commission (KSSC) Charman Sri. P C Mohanan ISS (Rtd) and former Additional Director General (ADG) and former acting Chairman of National Statistical Commission made a special address.

The state-level training program on Sample Check under the scheme Establishment of an Agency for Reporting Agriculture Statistics (EARAS) for the year 2024-25 was held on 17 January 2025 at the Directorate Conference Hall, Thiruvananthapuram. The event was attended by district-level officers such as Section Assistants, Research Assistants, Assistant District Officers and Deputy Directors. The Director Sri. Sreekumar B. explained the training curriculum and other district-related subjects. The training sessions were led by Assistant Director Sri. R. Radhakrishna Pillai and NSO SSO Sri. B. Muralidharan Nair. The program was also attended by Joint Directors, Senior Administrative Officer Sri. Sam Joseph, Additional Directors Sri. Vinodan T.P., Sri. Manoj M., and Dr. K.G. Geetha, as well as representatives from the EARAS division. Additionally, TSOs and other district-level officers took part in the programme in online mode. Joint Director Smt. 15 & 16 January 2025
On 15 and 16 January 2025, the Directorate hosted the state-level training conference on the scheme Establishment of an Agency for Reporting Agriculture Statistics (EARAS) for the preparation of Estimates of Area and Production of Principal Crops in Kerala 2024-25. The event was attended by district-level authorities, such as Research Officers (RO), Additional District Officers (ADO), District Officers (DO), and Deputy Directors (DD). The Director Sri. Sreekumar B. released the "Review of Crop Statistics," a publication of the 2022-23 sample check report by handing over a copy of the report to the NSO's SSO, Sri. B. Muralidharan Nair. Another publication, the "NSS 75th Round Report on Household Social Consumption - Health," was also released by handing over a copy to the Additional Director (State Income) Sri Manoj M. The program was attended by Additional Director (General) Sri. Vinodan T.P., Additional Director (Prices) Dr. K.G. Geetha, Joint Directors, Deputy Directors and representatives from the EARAS division. In addition, all staff from the taluk and district offices participated online.

On January 10, 2025, the Directorate hosted a state-level training conference on Housing statistics and Index of Industrial Production (IIP) directorate Conference Hall for Statistical Investigators and Research Officers responsible for data collection and supervision at district level. Additional Director Sri. Manoj M. and Deputy Director Smt. Yamuna A.R. addressed the gathering. The training sessions were led by Assistant Directors Sri. Sijith and Sri. Abdul Gafur, as well as Research Officer Sri. Sebin Mathew.

Rajeev Kumar, Senior Statistical Officer, NSO (FOD), gave practical training on data entry techniques, scrutiny, and validation of the Annual Survey of Industries. Smt. Naseera M., Assistant Director, ASI, presented a vote of gratitude at the end of the event. All ASI employees and survey invigilators from all districts took part in this training.

A State level training program on 80th round of National Sample Survey of the National Statistics Office was held on January 7 and 8, 2025, at the Directorate of Economic and Statistics, Vikas Bhavan in Kerala. Dr. Rajan N. Khobragade, Additional Chief Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, inaugurated the program, and Sri. Sreekumar B., Director of the Economic and Statistics Department, presided over it. Sri. Manoj M., Additional Director (State Income), gave the welcome speech. The keynote address was given by Sri. P.C. Mohanan, the chairman of the Kerala State Statistical Commission. Representatives from various departments, including the National Statistics Office, the Health Department, and the Economic and Statistics Department, attended the program.
6 & 7 January 2025
On January 6th and 7th, 2025, a "To-Be" workshop for preparation of FRS for development of new application by Digital University for the Prices Module was held at the Computer Division Training Hall. While taking part in the session, the Director, Sri. Sreekumar B., described the dynamic environment of prices and centralized data repository. Additional Director (General) Sri. T P Vinodan, Additional Director(Prices) Dr. K G Geetha, Deputy Director of Computer Section Sri. D S Shibukumar were coordinated the workshop. Selected officers in the cadre of District Officer, Taluk Statistical Officer, Research Officer, Research Assistant and Price Collectors were also attended from the selected districts. During the two-day session, DUK representatives Mr. Umasanker and Mrs. Geethika J S provided a thorough overview of the work completed so far and coordinated the reenginnering aspects in the new module. Other stakeholders from different departyments attended online.

The State-level workshop on Situation Assessment Survey on Agricultural Households in Kerala for the year 2024-25 was held on January 6, 2025, at the Directorate of Economics and Statistics. The workshop focused on data super checking and data entry related to the survey. Sri. Sreekumar B., Director of the department commended effort taken by all staff members who completed the survey’s data collection on time and suggested follow-up actions, emphasizing the workshop’s importance. Additional Director (State Income) Sri. Manoj M. presented the survey’s progress and future goals. Other notable attendees included Senior Joint Director Smt. Sudarsha R., Deputy Director Smt. Deepa S. A., and Nosologist Sri. Preeth V. S. The workshop covered topics such as survey schedule explanation, super check and schedule validation. Deputy Director (Evaluation) Sri. Abhilash K. and Research Officer Sri. Vijay R. conducted classes, while Research Assistant Sri. Saju K. introduced the data entry application and provided hands-on training.

On January 4, 2025, Dr. Navas Jalaludeen, a data specialist and advisor of the Qatar Central Bank, made an invited talk on "Data strategy for Smart Governance” at the Directorate of Economics and Statistics through hybrid mode. The Director Sri. Sreekumar B. gave a welcome speech, while Additional Director (Prices) Dr. K.G. Geetha delivered Vote of Thanks. All IT qualified staff of the department attended.

As part of the Revamping Action Team (RAT) activities, a meeting in hybrid mode with all department staff was held on January 3, 2025, at the Conference Hall, Directorate of Economics and Statistics, to decide the follow-up programs related to the departments' revamping. During the meeting, the Director, Sri. Sreekumar B., outlined the plans implemented by the department as part of the revamping and the plans that will be proposed to be implemented.
